| More and more, Kenora is becoming a haven for shoppers who want something just a little bit different. Yes, Kenora is well represented by the big box chains, but if you want something a bit different, downtown Kenora is the place to visit, and a walking tour is a great way to enjoy. Start off at the famous and fabulous Blue Heron gift shop and then check out the Painted Sheep across the street. Unique clothing can be viewed at the Blue Heron Boutique. Watch out, you may see someone you know from Winnipeg who has made a special trip just to shop there. Head over to Main Street and check out the excellent book and gift collection at the Lake of the Woods Museum. You should take a tour of the museum exhibits in this excellent facility as well. Cross over and take in the antique collection at Treats and Treasures. Check out the extensive collections of jewelry at Brennan's and Larry's Jewelers before you cross at the light at the Kenricia Hotel corner.
On the corner you will find fanciful clothing at Asiana. The fisherman in your family may want to visit with Greg at Zdeps Sports next door while you browse the tasteful selection at Abundance. McTaggart's is a long established fine clothing store that demands a visit. Plan to meet at HoJoe's for a coffee or if you have a sweet tooth or go next door to Nibblers Nook for the finest chocolates and fudge in the city. Furniture is not a normal purchase for a tourist, but out-of-towners shop regularly at King's Furniture. Before crossing Main Street, visit the former Hudson's Bay store now housing Donny B's. Across the street, Penner's Jewelers is a fixture on Main Street with many unique items and collectibles. The Hardware store maintains the look of the famous Fife Hardware Store. Proprietor Steve would be glad to talk history with you, or just browse the exquisite collection of casual and outdoors clothing and specialty items. You will find a bike shop and kayak sales and rentals located within. Another historic building is Johnson's Pharmacy which was established in the Rat Portage days. Next door, you can be assured that you won't find clothing sold at Nancy's on someone else. Nancy prides herself in discovering unique clothing treasures. Finally on Main Street, the selection of gifts, bedding and window covering makes Vertishade the ideal store to wrap up your Main street visit. Cross Main Street and check out more shopping adventures on Second Street, including previously enjoyed items at Bill's Second Hand Store or home accessories and bath accessories and scents at Interiors Decor. Browse new and used books across the way at the Bookstore. Something truly different will catch your eye on the racks at Sure Thing. More clothing and an extensive selection of sporting goods can be found in Tagg's and Weekend Adventures next door. If your family is in the skateboarding and BMX crowd, check out Board Anyone. Tired? We don't recommend that you try to do everything in one excursion, but we wanted to illustrate what is available and there is much more than this in Kenora. Watch for more details! |
